Retailers are increasingly evolving their physical environments to create a unique shopping experience for customers. To ensure they have the durable, yet sleek and sophisticated hardware needed to support seamless in-store transactions, Oracle unveiled the new Oracle MICROS Workstation 8 Series. Together with Oracle Retail Xstore Point-of-Service (POS) cloud software, retailers now have a complete, modern, platform to elevate their brand image, while better serving customers and staff.

“While technology drives innovation, it needs to blend into the experience and be invisible to the customer,” said Mike Webster, senior vice president and general manager, Oracle Retail. “The Workstation 8 Series delivers the durable, reliable technology our retail customers have come to expect, with form and function modern retailers demand.”

Workstation 8: Luxury Design Meets Power and Reliability

With a warm platinum chassis, the MICROS Workstation 8 features a slim, 14-inch anti-glare touchscreen that reduces contrast and lessens stress on the user’s eyes. It also helps minimize the appearance of fingerprints on the display.

Because of its modular design, retailers have the option to go minimalist or fuller featured by implementing Workstation 820 with a wall mount, a low-profile stand, or a vertical stand with base. The workstation can be used on its own or leverage the Peripheral Expansion Module (PEM), which provides options such as a cash drawer, scale, or scanner.

The quiet, fan-less system is designed to use less energy while withstanding a broad operating temperature range. And with its IP-rating, the Workstation 8 can withstand unforeseen splashes and spills to reduce the risk of downtime. Users have the option of the Windows 10 IoT Enterprise or Oracle Linux for MICROS operating systems. With the latter, there is no additional charge for an operating system license, and Oracle will manage the hardware and provide a single channel for the operating system, software, hardware, maintenance, and support.
